Stop Using Google Map While Driving – FRSC Warns Nigerians
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) FCT Sector Commander Ayuba Gora has said driving using Google Map using mobile phones is a serious traffic violation.
NAN reports that Mr. Gora said this during the inauguration of the 2019 Ember Months Campaign by the FRSC Lugbe Unit Command in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to him, the law prohibits motorists from using cell phones in any form while driving, as this can lead to an accident.
He also informed motorists that the body will soon begin enforcing the installation of speed limit devices.
Mr Gora advised motorists, especially commercial vehicle operators, who have not yet installed the device to do so.
âWe will soon be carrying out massive checks of vehicles without this device and arresting those who have disconnected the devices from their vehicles.
âIt is very important that all vehicles have the device installed in their vehicles.
âThe speed limit required for commercial vehicles, even on highways, should not exceed 90 km / h for buses and taxis.
âIn doing this today, we are simply reminding motorists to drive safely and obey traffic rules and regulations in order to make it easier for all of us.
âIf you are arrested during this time, you will not only pay fines, but you will have to undergo an emotional assessment test in the hospital to check your mental form before you let go,â he said.
He urged the public to dial 122 or 112 in the event of unusual road user behavior and in the event of an accident.
Mr Gora refuted speculations that the speed limit device would damage the car’s engine, saying it had nothing to do with the engine, but only cut off the fuel supply during a speeding attempt.
âOnce the vehicle reaches a predetermined maximum speed, the computer kicks in and restricts the flow of air and fuel to the engine and even the sparks that cause combustion.
âIn any case, the vehicle cannot exceed the maximum speed determined by the car manufacturer.
âThe problem we have with the operators of these vehicles is that when a speed limiter is installed, they tamper with it. In the process of tampering by disconnection, this causes a problem, âhe added.
