Google appears today as a friend, a philosopher and a guide! Whether it’s going to a restaurant or a nearby grocery store, Google Maps is used by everyone. Google maps help us navigate and reach our destination; but then we must have a data connection.

But have you wondered what to do if you go to a place with poor internet connection? Google maps now provides a range of features that will help you navigate without a data connection just by downloading Google maps first. It provides a much better offline experience for users by allowing them to use options like turn-by-turn navigation, location searches, and property information without an internet connection.

How to download Google maps for offline use:

You can now download Google maps beforehand for online use and it will give you a hassle-free and uninterrupted experience even when traveling in a low reception area.

Here’s how to download a Google map on Android or iOS:

Step 1: You need to open the Google map and just search for the location you want to save. Make sure you are signed in to your Google account.

2nd step: You will see that the map will scroll to display the location you have searched for. When the search location appears, you need to tap on the location name at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3: Below the address you have to scroll right and press “download”

Step 4: Select the download option and confirm it by pressing Download again. You will also need to choose the size of the region you want to save.

Google maps offline management and navigation:

After downloading a Google map, you can just search for a location in that region without a data connection. This feature of Google Maps will help you in navigation with step-by-step directions in the area.

By selecting offline maps at the top right, you can manage the location you want. You have the option to update, delete or rename as per your choice.

Offline Google Map Limitations:

Offline Google maps have some limitations. For example, you won’t be able to download cycling or walking routes when using downloaded routes. Another constraint of the offline Google map is that you will not have access to traffic routes and regular updates, alternate routes or lane guidance.

Also, if there is a change of route, Google maps will not alert you. You should also check the city’s storage capacity before downloading a Google map. In cases such as contractual limitations and language support, offline downloading is not an option.
